WSSSM on Snoqualmie Pass is two years old with attendance growing. What a feat it is, and the free museum could not have been done without the amazing organizational skills and efforts of Ancient Skier Dave Moffett. The Snoqualmie Pass museum is the first ever non-profit public ski museum in Washington State. It is run by volunteers and is typically open Thursday through Sundays, but open hours can vary by season, so it’s best to call 425-434-0827 to get the latest information on open hours. If you are interested or know someone who may like to volunteer, Dave Moffett requests you contact him or email Judy Huggett at wsssm.org@gmail.com. Most volunteers have really enjoyed the opportunity to share skiing stories with visitors and it’s easy to do.
The WSSSM is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that has made use of the expertise of Seattle-based EDX for design and planning services and Turner Exhibits, Inc. for fabrication of the many museum exhibit displays. Fundraising efforts continue to be successful and the long-term sustainability of the museum is within close reach. A donor matching program for this November is underway. The museum showcases skiing then and now and has a number of high-definition monitors with digital images and film clips enhancing artifact displays. Exhibits highlight the history of Washington’s Nordic and alpine skiing traditions as well as snowboarding, with special displays featuring the legacies of modern ski manufacturers such as K2 and Mervin Snowboards. The museum is open free to the public and staffed by volunteers. More information can be found on their website: www.wsssm.org.
