A Letter from the President

Dear Ancient Skiers Members,

It has been my privilege to serve as President of the Ancient Skiers Association of the Pacific Northwest for the past six years. During that time, I have been continually inspired by the dedication of our members and our shared commitment to preserving the rich history of skiing in the Pacific Northwest.

Like many organizations—and many of our members—we have felt the effects of rising inflation over the past several years. The costs of producing our newsletter, hosting our bi-annual banquet, and maintaining our operations have increased significantly, while our primary source of income continues to come from new memberships. As a result, the Board has been carefully evaluating both expenses and new revenue opportunities to ensure the long-term health of our Association.

After thoughtful discussion, we have made several cost-saving decisions. Future newsletters will primarily be distributed electronically, reducing mailing expenses by more than $1,000 per issue. We have also selected a new banquet venue that requires a much smaller financial commitment upfront. Our previous venue required deposits that represented nearly half of our treasury simply to reserve dates and services. These were not easy decisions, but they are necessary to strengthen our financial position. As our treasury improves, these choices can certainly be revisited.

At the same time, we are exploring new ways to generate revenue. One idea under consideration is banquet table sponsorships from ski manufacturers and local businesses. This approach could help reduce banquet costs for attendees while encouraging greater participation and support from our industry partners.

Our Association was founded with a vision of honoring the people and preserving the history of skiing in the Pacific Northwest. That vision led to the creation of the Northwest Ski Museum and the Pacific Northwest Skiers Hall of Fame. Many of you may not know that in 1988, the Association adopted 501(c)(7) tax status rather than 501(c)(3) charitable status. While this decision preserved the Association at the time, it also limits how we can receive and use tax-deductible contributions today.

Because our operating expenses are beginning to outpace membership income, I would like to ask you to consider making a voluntary donation to the Association. Contributions beyond our normal operating needs will be dedicated to preserving ski history and maintaining the Pacific Northwest Skiers Hall of Fame—continuing the mission that has united us for generations.

Donations may be sent to the Ancient Skiers Association Treasurer. We also accept contributions through Zelle using Treasurer@ancientskiers.com. If you prefer to mail a check, please send it to:

Jolene Boice, Treasurer
Ancient Skiers Association of the Pacific Northwest
10912 29th Pl. SW

Finally, as many of you know, our By-Laws call for the appointment of a President every six years. Due to some recent health challenges, I have decided not to seek another term as President. It has truly been an honor to serve this remarkable organization, and I am deeply grateful for the friendships, support, and memories we have shared.

If you are interested in serving as the next President of the Ancient Skiers Association, or would like to nominate another member, please submit your nomination to Board@ancientskiers.com. I know our Association will continue to thrive with the dedication and passion of its members.

Thank you for your continued support of the Ancient Skiers Association and for helping preserve the history and legacy of skiing in the Pacific Northwest for future generations.

Warm regards,

Ty Anderson
President
Ancient Skiers Association of the Pacific Northwest
