Laurel Macartney

Laurel (Laurie) Diane Macartney, (69) died June 24, 2016 after an 11-year battle with cancer. Laurie was born March 16, 1947 to Roscoe and Dorothy (Jensen) Boatman. She graduated from Nathan Hale High School in 1965, University of Washington as a Phi Beta Kappa in 1969 with a degree in botany and education. She was a naturalist at Oregon Caves National Monument, and Crater Lake and Mt. Rainier National Parks. Laurie served on the Crystal Mt. Ski Patrol for 46 years., served on numerous cancer related committees at Evergreen Hospital and many cancer fund raising campaigns. She put her science background to work reviewing cancer research grants in Washington D.C. Above all, she loved to ride her motorcycle accumulating over 150,000 mi in the last 15 years.

Laurel is survived by her husband John, her sons Matthew (Michelle), Scott (Kate), brother John Boatman (Ann), two sister in-laws, two brother in-laws, three granddaughters, one grandson, five nephews, three nieces, and several cousins.
