Ancient Skiers in the News

October 28, 2023 By Jacqueline Banks

The International Skiing History Association recognized Ancient Skier Don Amick in their latest issue of Skiing History Magazine, volume 35 Number 5, September-October 2023. The senior Amicks, pioneers among Ancient Skiers, joined the community early on. In 1947, Don Amick showcased his talent, securing third place in the prestigious Silver Ski Race on Mount Rainier, a testament to his skiing prowess. The following year, he earned a coveted spot on the men’s team for the Winter Olympics in St Moritz (1948). Despite a setback from a practice run injury, his determination shone brightly during the opening ceremonies, where he courageously walked with crutches, embodying the spirit of resilience in the face of challenges.
