Ancient Skiers 2025 Sun Valley Reunion Recap

February 27, 2025 By President

By Christy Anna Gerber

Blue Skies, groomed runs, and great friends made our annual Ancient Skiers Reunion in Sun Valley a roaring success! We kicked off our week at the welcome party on Sunday – did you join us in the Boiler Room? This is always a great way to start the week in Sun Valley – seeing old friends, picking up the schedule for the week, and making plans with friends! If you didn’t join us this year, plan on joining us next year on January 11th in the Boiler Room from 3:00 – 5:30 p.m.

Throughout the week we had several activities, a group photo at the base of River Run and an evening at the Wood River Museum of History and Culture. We gathered for beer, wine, light snacks, to check out the current exhibits and visit with our Ancient Skier friends. This is always a great evening to mix and mingle while learning more about the history surrounding the Sun Valley area.

True to our nature, we had a fun and competitive NASTAR race on a dual GS course on lower Warm Springs in the sunshine! Congratulations to our winners! First place went to Joann Olson & Chic Dohoney, second place finishers were Hurley Hamilton and Stanley Larson, and third place went to Robin Hagenau and Rick Stocks. Cheers to them and all who participated, this is always a much-anticipated event with lots of smiles and fun banter!

Saturday night we dined and danced at our western-themed awards banquet. The group was treated to cowboy poetry by Len Gerber who wowed the crowd with two poems, one by Waddie Mitchell, the Belle of the Ball and Red Steagall’s, One More Lick. We celebrated our NASTAR racers, and presented the Sun Valley Sun Award to Robin Hagenau and Jim Plomasen for their contributions to the skiing community.

And of course a BIG thank you to our volunteers to help make the week a success: Loretta & Wendell Cayton, Connie and Dan DeWerd, Leslie Dizon, Bill Fundy, Marlys & Len Gerber, George Gerber, Robin Hagenau, Rae Kozlowski, Hurley Hamilton, Ron Johnson, LeRoy Kingland, Amy Nelson, Maureen Pressley, Judy Sweeney, Sharon Wellsandt, Brenda Lyon, and Pat Deal.

Save The Date for next year’s reunion! We will see you in Sun Valley January 11th through the 18th in 2026! Our Welcome party will be on Sunday, January 11th in the Boiler Room and our Awards Banquet will be Friday, January 16, 2026. Book your lodging now before things fill up!
